(1) The topmost
reason why be in social media is: it's where the people are! 72% of internet users are now on social media
.(http://www.jeffbullas.com/2014/01/17/20-social-media-facts-and-statistics-you-should-know-in-2014/) Social media facilitate communication
with 280.8 million people out of 3.9 billion internet users. (www.voanews.com/.../number-of-internet-users-worldwide.../1908968.h...)
(2) It’s where the old and the young spend time, the
males and females are together, the different nations are gathered in one
platform and the different schools of thought are presented; the first
areopagus of the modern age-- a venue
for dialogue (www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=3734).
(3) It’s where civilization begins because the common
concerns of humanity are discussed, visions are shared and strategies are
planned. The people of goodwill—the
experienced and educated ones can take the lead in bringing order, balance,
justice and peace. Life issues are taken
up, discussed and solved (www.liveaction.org).
(4) Immediacy of
communication via social media: super-typhoon Haiyan was mentioned 3,243,826
times from the day it struck on 8th November 2013 in Philippines. Twitter accounted for 74.9% mentions, giving
quick global access to information on how to save the victims. Facebook accounted for 19.2% mentions while
mainstream news was 2.7% (http://allfamous.com/trending/a-radian6-report-on-super-typhoon-yolanda/)
(5) Awareness
campaign is easily facilitated through social media as a way of encouraging
others to be a brother and a sister to one another. The darkness of the “Culture of Death” that
tends to penetrate the mentality of the masses is exposed. Putting the hashtag #PrayToEndAbortion
immediately sends information to the abortionists that what they are doing
isn’t human!
(6) Realities are
uncovered. Planned
Parenthood’s (PP) deception cannot be easily exposed through mainstream news
outlets that depend entirely on income from advertisements. Advertising agencies, like the
endorsers of PP bank on beauty, popularity and freedom without responsibility giving rise to pro-choice mentality. Personal initiatives that bring out the flaws of Pro-Choice culture ultimately become viral.
(7) Intellectual and moral support. Sometimes, you may feel that you are alone in an
opinion. This feeling makes you less confident in verbally expressing your opinion. The social
media give you a list of people who think like you. The sharing of thoughts widens the
horizons. Issues are better studied,
grasped and solutions are carried out together.
(8) Twenty-four hours
online. There is always somebody in
the internet that finds your message.
Throughout the day and night, messages circulate online. Pope Benedict XVI called the cyberspace as
the “Global Plaza”. In this virtual
public square, there is a lot of life!
People don’t mind keeping vigil; discussing things openly.
(9) Unite for a cause. The women’s rights activists declared May
28 as International Day of Action for Women's Health promoting “rights for
choice”-- their body is their own and that abortion is healthcare. In order to correct this wrong mentality, the
worldwide pro-life movement launched
a Twitter festival on May 28 using the hashtag #WomensHealth with the message “Abortion
is not healthcare”. In this "Twitter Turn Over" radical feminists were greatly surprised. (Anti-abortion rights activists 'hijack' #WomensHealth
(10) Give idea to
what direction humanity is going. As
the different nations of the world turn to social media, humanity’s
heartbeat could be felt… The subjects of
prayer, research and other ways of investing energies could be directed to the
path that could enhance and preserve life.
On June 11, 2014 from 2:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST, Planned Parenthood’s miseducation of children was launched using the hashtag #SexEd @PPact. In order to stop the “Culture of Death”, root
